Elizabeth's life revolved around her family, both her own family of origin and the family she created with Elliot. She was extremely close to her own sisters and brother especially her older sister Ellen, whom she adored. After marrying, she lived next door to her in-laws and close by to many other Cabot relatives in Brookline, Mass., with whom she became very close.
She and Elliot had seven sons whom she educated when they were small teaching them their letters, numbers, reading, and geography before they went to regular school. All seven of her sons graduated from Harvard College and several went on to Harvard professional schools.
When her sons were grown she served on the Brookline School Board for many years and also worked with caring for the town's poor as well as caring for various extended family members.
