Born in Jamaica, New York to Michael Price Holland and Fanny R. Brush. The Hollands were among the earliest (1857) and most influential settlers of Rockaway Beach. He was proprietor of W.C. Holland & Son, a grocery store in the Holland section of Rockaway.

"William C. Holland, one of the largest property owners of Rockaway Beach, L.I., died at his home there on Sunday, aged 59 years. He was a son of the late Michael Holland, a pioneer of Rockaway Beach, for whom Holland's Station is named. In the early history of the beach the Holland family owned a strip of beach half a mile wide stretching from the Atlantic Ocean back to Jamaica Bay. Holland leaves a widow, six sons and five daughters."
