Moyne D. Alley, known to most as "Al," passed away Dec. 10, 2010, at Marquis Care in Oregon City. He was born April 27, 1934, in Las Animas, Colo., to Lewis and Roberta Alley. Moyne married Sally, his loving wife of 57 years. They had two sons, Mitchell in 1959 and Scott in 1961. They lived in Pleasant Valley for 33 years, before relocating to Oregon City. Al was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving on aircraft carrier USS Sitkoh Bay during the Korean War. He started his long career in the meat business after moving to Portland in 1957. He founded Beef Palace Distribution and also Alco Seafood Brokerage. He was highly respected for his strong work ethic and outgoing personality. Al was a 30-year member of Kiwanis International, serving in various offices at the local and Northwest District level. He was a tireless builder of new clubs and fundraiser for community services. He was a life member of National Rifle Association (NRA) and Disabled American Veterans (DAV), a former Elks member, and a longtime member of Pleasant Valley Community Baptist Church. Al was an avid outdoorsman-hunting, fishing, and boating. He enjoyed fly-tying and kept a huge vegetable and flower garden. He hayed and prepared gardens and yards in the Pleasant Valley area. Al and Sally traveled to the Bahamas, Alaska, Canada, and many U.S. cities. Moyne is survived by his wife, Sally; sons, Mitchell and Scott (Charlotte); sister-in-law, Delores Hjelm; brother-in-law, William Lordos (Patty); and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, in Pleasant Valley Community Baptist Church, 17608 S.E. Foster Road, Portland. The family requests donations, in lieu of flowers, to the American Cancer Society , Alzheimer's Association , or Willamette Falls Hospice.
