Rev. Lewis F. Foltz, pastor of the Lyons-Bernville Lutheran Parish from 1925 to 1930, died Tuesday night in the Topton Lutheran Home, where he had resided three months.
Chaplain of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Philadelphia for 16 years until retiring in 1986, he was ordained in 1925 by the former Susquehanna Synod of Central Pennsylvania, United Lutheran Church in America, now the Lutheran Church in America.
An Army veteran of World War I, Foltz returned to the Army as a chaplain in World War II, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Born in Rebuck, Northumberland County, he was a son of the late George and Susan (Reitz) Foltz.
His wife, Edna P. (Goff) Foltz, died Dec. 21, 1977.
A member and chaplain for many years of Sunbury Lodge 713, F & AM, Foltz was a member and director of the Somerset American Legion and a director of the Somerset County Chapter American Red Cross.
Executive committee member and secretary of the former Allegheny Synod, he was former pastoral adviser of the Johnstown District Luther League and fomer instructor and dean of leadership schools.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan R., wife of Dr. Ralph H. Tietbohl, with whom Foltz had resided before entering the Topton home; and Jane Louise, wife of Harry Strunk, Lake Worth, Fla.; a son, Roy G., Villanova; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Also a brother, Charles, Sunbury, and four sisters; Edith, wife of Earl Grace, Holiday, Fla.; and Elma, widow of Roy Garverick; Ann, widow of Daniel Shindel; and Catherine Foltz, all of Sunbury.
