Born in Broarp, Norra Vi Parish. Immigrated to Price County where his father claimed homestead land on Spirit Lake in October 1883. He attended Stone Lake School, Town of Brannan. At a young age he worked in logging camps and as a drover on the Eau Plein and Spirit Rivers. He operated logging camps, sawmills, a chair factory, cheese factory, grocery store, dairy and Spirit Lake golf course. He sold Delco Light plants, farm machinery and railroad ties, was a broker for cedar posts and developed Wisconsin Wood Products with V. Gustafson in Rib Lake. He designed the Phillips golf course (1931), with partners built Wisconsin Wood Products, bought out Kneeland McLurg Lumber Co.in 1934, was half owner of Phillips Flooring and Lumber Co.(1939), Phillips Lumber and Supply, and Phillips Concrete Block plant (1950s). He cruised timber and bought stumpage and entire logging operations (Winegar Camp during World War II). He collected and presented muzzle loaders as "incentives" for business dealings during WWII. He lived to provide employment for family and community. He was a member of Rotary Club and Saint John's Lutheran Church, Phillips.
