"Orville Carlton Berg died peacefully 18 February 2007 at an adult care home in Milwaukie, Oregon ten days after being diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer. He was born 12 September 1919 in Lodi, California to Carl Earl Berg and Freda Grace Yankee, both of "Germans from Russia" descent. He was raised on a farm in Manteca, California and graduated from Manteca High School in 1938. He served in Civilian Public Service during World War II. Orville married Opal Marie Shatto on 27 May 1952 at Elliott Prairie, Oregon. They resided in southeast Portland, Oregon for 50 years and moved to Carmen Oaks Retirement Residence in Lake Oswego, Oregon in 2002. Orville was employed by the City of Portland in the Public Works Department for 33 years and retired in 1980. In 2004, he suffered a cardiac arrest and had successful quadruple bypass surgery. A lifelong Christian, he was looking forward to seeing his loved ones in heaven. Survivors include wife Opal Berg of Lake Oswego, Oregon; daughter Theresa Anne Berg and son in law Michael Allen Hurlock of Seattle, Washington; sister Winifred Norma Berg Shatto of Canby, Oregon; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Remembrances to Kaiser Permanente Hospice, 2701 N.W. Vaughan St., Ste 140, Portland, OR 97210-5398. No services at his request. Ashes scattered at Washington Park Rose Garden, Portland, OR and Eagle Creek Recreation Area, Cascade Locks, OR-site of Civilian Public Service Camp #21.
