Was an Indian born English adventurer who in the 1840's mamaged to gain power and set up an independent state in Sarawak, on the island of Borneo.
Was granted the title of Rajah of Sarawak, on September 24, 1841. Although granted the title the official declaration was not made until August 18, 1842, Was the date of the Coronation. He was the First White Rajah of Sarawak. Birth place : Secrore, Benares, India. Temporarily returned to England in 1847. Was given the Freedom of the City of London, Appointed governor and Commander in chief of Labuan ( the main island of the Malaysia Federal Territory. Became British Consul General in Borneo. was created a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath. Officially unmarried and without legitimate issue.
