James E. Black, aged 51 years, Lowellville, O., died today at 1 a.m. after suffering a heart attack while at work at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the South Side Hospital, Youngstown. Prior to that time he had been in his usual health. Born April 25, 1899, at Emlenton, Pa., Mr. Black was a son of Plummer and Myrtle Erwin Black. Most of his life was lived in Lawrence County. The deceased, a member of the Church of the Nazarene, was employed as an engine hostler. Survivors are: his widow, nee Harvetta Gerlach, whom he married 24 years ago; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Plummer Black, Mahoningtown, R.D. 7; five children, Mrs. Luella Lewis, Lowellville, R.D. 2, Mrs. Ida Davis, New Castle, Clarissa, Cheryl and Darrell, all at home, and three grandchildren. The following brothers and sisters also survive: Mary, Harry, Sam and Lawrence all of Mahoningtown, R.D. 7, and Mrs. Alvin Lodwick, North Lima, O. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the R.L. Boyd Funeral Home, 208 North Jefferson St., where friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will take place in Oak Park Cemetery.
