Leo was born in San Francisco to John and Dominica Barlesi. He grew up in the Portola District, and spent much of his teenage years playing clarinet and saxophone in a Boogie-Woogie Band, or helping his three older brothers out at their bar, "The 3 B's", where his many experiences led to great stories for his kids and grandkids.

He joined the Navy at 17, and served on the USS Boston cruising the South Pacific. He married Patricia Archambeault in 1947. Upon moving to San Jose in 1965, Leo became an active member of the Men's Club at St. Francis Cabrini Church where he was well-known for his Bingo "calling" skills. Leo was an avid golfer and poker player, and loved being with his friends at Original Joe's, in lively conversation with absolutely everyone.

Leo is survived by his family: children George and Linda, John and Lisa, Dennis and Ann. Grandchildren Gina (Billy), Bobby, Annie (Jason), Lauren (Doug), Hilary (Colton), Teresa, Mike. Great-grandchildren Hayden, Owen, Madison, Maggie, Charlie, David, Tyler. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by wife Pat, parents, brothers Arthur, George, and Bummy, and sister Lucy.

At Leo's request, there will be no services. At a later date, Leo will be inured in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.
