Served in the US Marine Corps and was wounded on 6-14-1918 in France during World War I.

His death certificate #29761, indicates the names of his parents and his wife as Melba Mattingly. He died at the DePaul Hospital and his residence was #2 Chambers Road, St. Louis. Cause of death listed as acute myocardial infarction. He was a Marine World War I Veteran, an attorney, a member of the Missouri State legislature, and served as Chairman of the Republican National Committee of St. Louis. He was buried at the Hiram Cemetery in St. Louis County, Missouri according to the death certificate but that is an incorrect name.

His wife was Melba Schmidt.
