Emily Kell, born on 12 November 1837, in Indiana and died on 30 December 1916, at Kahoka in Clark County, Missouri. She was the daughter of Benjamin Kell, Sr. (1811-1878) and his first wife Rachama (or Rhuema) Beckner (1813-1848).
She married on 1 November 1857, in Clark County, Missouri Samuel Peyton Clay (1833–1914). They were the parents of the following children: Laura E. (née Clay) Dow (1858-1914), Ruhama Jean (née Clay) Sharts (1860-1923), Ella Jackson (née Clay) Selby (1863-1947), Effie (née Clay) Murphy (1865-1950), Martha (née Clay) Briggs (1869-1896), Marion L. Clay (1872-1944) and Emma B. (née Clay) Fleming (1876-1965).
