Pauline was the only child of Isaac James Prater and Goldie Nancy Harris. Isaac and Goldie divorced and Isaac married Vicia Boyer with whom he fathered five more children. Pauline maintained a close relationship with her father and half siblings.
Pauline married Cleve "Doc" Elmer Stum (son of William Stum and Mattie R. Nance) on July 2, 1927. Pauline and Cleve had two children, Beverly and William.
