Elihu Kellogg, son of Nathanial and Caroline Kellogg, was born near Rosendale, Mo., on February 8, 1855 and departed this life May 13, 1928 at his home near Wayne, Kans., being a the time of his demise 73 years, 3 months and 5 days old.

His early life was spent at the old family home near Rosendale, Mo., until in 1876, at the age of 21, he and three brothers came to Kansas and settled on adjoining homesteads. His homestead became his home for the remainder of his life. On December 25, 1878, he was united in marriage to Samantha Williamson, who wrought loyal with him as a true pioneer, that the prairie might blossom as a rose. Had he lived until Christmas, they would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Kellogg were blessed with six children, three sons and three daughters. of whom one daughter, Maurine, passed away in childhood. Those left to mourn a kind and loving husband and father, one who deemed no sacrifice to great to make for his family, are his widow, Mrs. Samantha Kellogg and five children; Charley Kellogg of Jamestown, Kans.; Mrs. Bertha Smith of Agenda, Kans,; Bertie Kellogg of Stratton, Colo.; Mrs. Ollie Teagarden of Manhattan, Kans.; and George Kellogg of Agenda, Kans. He also leaves 13 grandchildren.

He was one of a family of ten children of whom one alone survives, his youngest sister, Mrs. Addie Adkins of Rosendale, Mo. fourteen nieces, nine nephews, many cousins and a host of friends are also today mourning the loss of our departed.

The funeral services were held in the Methodist church of Wayne and in charge of the pastor, Miss Gabrielson, assisted by her father, Rev. J.A. Gabrielson. A quartette sang several selections. The floral offerings were beautiful. Interment was at the Union cemetery, a mile south of Wayne, Kansas.
