Co. E, 61st Regt., GA Infantry, CSA--Montgomery Sharp Shooters.
Enlisted April, 1862, private in Company E, 61st Georgia Infantry (Montgomery Sharpshooters). Fought at Cold Harbor, Malvern Hill (Seven Pines Campaign), Cedar Mountain, Second Manassas, Harper's Ferry, Sharpsburg, Fredricksburg, Marye's Heights, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Monocacy Md., Spotsylvania Courthouse, Petersburg, surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse on April 9, 1865. As part of Gordon's Brigade they carried the Rebel Flag further north than any other Confederates. Captured at Fredricksburg, Dec. 3, 1863. Wounded Payne's Farm, Va. Nov. 27-28, 1863, wounded Wilderness May 6, 1864. He was at home on medical furlough when the war ended.
