Birth: 1764
Death: 1852

John was in the Battle of King's Mountain at the age of 16. He is mentioned in several books that contain the history of "The Battle of King's Mountain."

He went to Blount County, Tennessee where he built a Fort, (Fort Craig) by the city of Maryville, Tennessee. He withheld several attacks from Indians there and was very successful because of the location of his fort.

Today the city of Maryville, Tennessee sits on the site of land that once belonged to John Craig.
John was one of three sons born to James Craig, Sr. The other children were: David and James Craig Jr.

He was the spouse of Martha Craig. After her death he married Jane Benham.

John and Martha had the following children: Adam Hall, Nancy, James, John P., William E., David, Harvey and Alfred C. Craig.
