Anna Ridge Brumback was born on December 5, 1853 in Point Pleasant, Bucks County, Pennsylvania to William Brumback (originally Brownback) and Rebecca Ridge. Her family moved to Westfield, Bureau, Illinois in 1855 when she was seven years old. When she was around 17 years old, her residence was Piper City, Ford, Illinois. She attended the Grand Prairie Seminary where she met her future husband, Dr. Alfred William Hyde. She was married on July 25, 1882 in Piper City. Her mother, Rebecca Ridge Brumback, died two years later and is buried in Chatsworth Cemetery, Chatsworth, Illinois. Anna moved with her husband to Gary, South Dakota after spending a year in Clinton, Illinois. Three of her children were born in Gary. They moved to Brookings in 1889 as they were attracted to the state college. Her children attended this college and became nurses, teachers, and engineers.
