Mrs. Sophia Broda dies Wednesday at age of 85 years. The funeral service will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Lockwood Mortuary.
After a severe illness of more than a week, Mrs. Sophia (May) Broda, a well known resident of the Wray and Laird communities for many years, died Wednesday morning at the Community Hospital where she had been a patient since her final illness. The lady fell several months ago and fractured a hip, but she had made an excellant recovery and was looking forward to helping her daughter, Mrs. A. M. Tofflemoyer, celebrate her golden wedding anniversay on Feb 12. A week ago she suddenly became ill, and her condition became gradually worse until her death yesterday.
Sophis Maria Monasmith was born December 21, 1864 near Norwalk, Iowa, and died at the age of 85 years, one month and 18 days.
When she was a child, she moved with her parents to Central City, Nebraska. On January 22, 1880, she was married to George Washington Broda and to this union seven children were born. Three sons died in infancy.
In 1890, the couple with their children pionered in the west, coming to Norcatur, Kansas in a covered wagon and established a home there. Eighteen years ago they moved to Laird and Mrs. Broda has been a resident of the Wray and Laird communities ever since. Mr. Broda preceded his wife in death on June 10, 1942.
Surviving Mrs. Broda are four children, Grace Maude (Aaron) Tofflemoyer of Wray, Harrison Broda of Derby, Colorado, Nellie Harding of Hardy, Arkansas, and Oliver Broda of Tarpon Springs, Florida. Seventeen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren and many less near relatives.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 O'clock at the Lockwood Mortuary in Wray, conducted by Rev. S. F. Bullard. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetary.
