LILLIAN STACEY CALLAWAY -- A long time resident of Gulf Shores passed from this life on June 26, 2003. She was 95 years old. She was a member of the Lagoon Baptist Church. The businesses she owned for many years were the Callaway Groceries, Callaway Cottages and R.V. Court on the Lagoon and West Palm Hotel on the Gulf. She came to Gulf Shores as a school teacher around 1926. She and her husband owned some of the first shrimp boats on the island. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Callaway; parents, Dr. and Mrs. A.G. Stacey; a daughter, Shirley King and a sister, Inez Nelson. She is survived by two daughters, Vivian Callaway Peed and Carol Sweet (Gerry), both of Gulf Shores; ten grandchildren, Al King, Hal King, ReRe King Machen, Lee Peed, Marimanda Peed Tillman, Robin Peed Smelcer, Geri Lee Sweet Younce, Stacey Sweet Bass, Ginger Sweet Smithson and Rod Sweet; twenty two great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Visitation will be held Monday at 12:00 pm at Lagoon Baptist Church in Gulf Shores with the funeral following at 2:00 pm. Reverend Ben Hayes will officiate the service. Interment will be at Miller Memorial Cemetery in Gulf Shores. The family suggests memorials be made to the Lagoon Baptist Church Youth Center, 17867 St. Hwy 180, Gulf Shores, AL 36542. Arrangements are by PINE REST FUNERAL HOME.
