My Uncle Joe Funnell was born Charles Joseph Funnell in Farwell Michigan to my grandpaents Mildred Funnell and Vernon Funnell on October 24th 1954. From his father's first marriage he has 3 half sisters named Virginia Funnell-Horn, Peggy Funnell-Glasgow, and Joanne Funnell-Hrvlovich and an older half adopted brother named Louie Funnell. From his mom and dad's marriage together Joe had an older sister named Cindy Funnell-Agle, an older brother LeRoy Funnell, an older brother named Jack Funnell(my dad), a younger brother named Rob Funnell, and a younger sister named Chris Funnell-Harris. In 1969 my Uncle Joe and the rest of the Funnells including my grandparents packed everything up and moved down to Zephyrhills Florida where he, my dad, my grandfather, and my other uncles started Funnell Paving Business driving dump trucks and bulldozers and loaders. My Uncle Joe loved to sleep alot and got very angry if you woke him up in the middle of the night. My Uncle Joe also worked at PUBLIX as a frozen food manager. My Uncle Joe also played softball with my Uncle Rob for Zephyrhills National Bank. In 1974 my Uncle Joe married a beautiful young lady named Wanda Fowler whom he met through one of her brothers. They lived in Dade City Florida and had 2 sons named David born on August 16th 1978 and Andy born on September 14th 1980. In late 1981 early 1982 my Uncle Joe began to have headaches really bad and went to the doctor to find out what was the matter and they told him that he had a Brain Tumor. They thought it was the size of a penny but when they went in to get it they found out it was the size of an orange. They managed to get the tumor but after this my Uncle Joe had to be fed through a tube and couldn't talk. A year later in 1983 he was put back in a hospital in Tampa and it was learned that he had cancer throughout his whole body. On the evening of August 18th 1983 my mom Delia, my dad Jack, and my Aunt Chris went to visit Uncle Joe in the hospital where he was asleep and they found out that he was in a coma. They tried to wake him but had no success. They called my Aunt Wanda who was back at home in Dade City and told her she needed to get up there to which she did and got to be with my Uncle Joe in his final hours. Early the next morning August 19th 1983 my Uncle Joe died at the age of 28 1/2 leaving behind his wife of 9 years Wanda and two sons David and Andy who were only 5 and 2 1/2 at the time. Eventhough I've never known my Uncle Joe he's become my favorite member of the Funnell Family History and I've loved learning about him the most out of all my family. When I see pictures of my Uncle Joe I think he looks like my Uncle Rob and I always tell my Uncle Rob that he has late brother Joe's spirit inside him which makes my Uncle Rob laugh and smile because I think it makes him feel good to know that his brother Joe is living on inside him.
