Born in St. Peter, MN, Cora attended local schools, when her family removed to St. Paul she completed schooling there and then attended nearby Hamline University, (Class of 1893). She was unmarried. She was very active in neighborhood and university social and club activities. Trained as a teacher, she taught briefly in St. Paul schools. She devoted most of her time to caring for her elderly parents in their large Victorian home. She was especially close to her mother, Sarah Purnell Montgomery. She was also active in local church affairs at the Methodist Episcopal Church of Hamline, where she taught Sunday School. For 18 years she and her family spent winters in Pasadena, California, where she developed a wide circle of friends. She died there in February 10,1935, after an extended illness.
