Clarence E. Day married Elizabeth Frances Smith, Oct. 31, 1897 in Coshocton Co., Ohio.
He was educated in the "district schools and in a normal school." After completing his education he became a Teacher for two years. He then returned to the family "home farm" and in 1896 became involved in a the "general merchandising" business in Tiverton, investing all his money, and 4 weeks later his entire stock of merchandise was destroyed by a fire and he lost everything. He was then "compelled" to begin all over again.
Clarence was then employed by his father for a year, making $18.00 a month. At the end of the year, in association with his brother, Sanford Day, he purchased his father's store. He also purchased an interest in his father's business at Brinkhaven. He then purchased his brother's interest in the store at Tiverton and carried a full and "complete line" of general merchandise. This business was very successfully.
He owned one hundred acres of land in Tiverton township. Owned "realty" in Centerburg and a store in Tiverton. He also owned a home with 20 acres of land.
He was a Mason and a member of the Warsaw Lodge at Spring Mountain.
