Oreola Cheves was the daughter of Adoniram Judson Cheves and Anna Marie Sanford.

MISS OREOLA CHEVES
Final Rites Friday For Miss Oreola Cheves, Beloved Educator.
Montezuma hearts were saddened last Thursday by the passing of Miss Oreola Cheves, well-known and beloved educator and civic leader. Miss Oreola, as she was known to her many devoted friends, died at a Montezuma hospital where she went for treatment on Monday. She had been in declining health for several months.
Born in Macon County on May 26, 1869, the daughter of the late Rev. A. J. Cheves, a native of Crawford County and Anna M. Sanford Cheeves of Penfield, Ga. Miss Oreola spent her youth here and when she retired from teaching twelve years ago, returned to Montezuma to make her home with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Cellie Cheves.
Miss Oreola was a former teacher in the schools of Montezuma, Columbus and in the Georgia State College for Women at Milledgeville. She was president of the Montezuma Garden Club and Society Editor of the Citizens & Georgian, a spot which she had filled for several years. She was one of the most active and influential member of the First Baptist Church here.

Surviving Miss Oreola are one brother, Langdon C. Cheves of Montezuma, three nieces, Mrs. L. M. Lester of College Park; Mrs. Harold Guest of Montezuma; Mrs. John Sheffield of Americus, eight nephews, Sanford Cheves of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Judson Cheves of Gainesville, Fla, Howard Cheves of Greenville, S. C., Isaac Cheves of Fairburn, Ga., Rodney [?] Cheves of Atlanta; Palmer Cheves of Montezuma; and L. C. Cheves, Jr. U.S.Army, overseas.
Services were conducted from the Montezuma Funeral Home Friday afternoon, October 19, with the Rec. Chas H. Kopp officiating, assisted by the Rev. Charles A. Jackson, Jr. Interment was in FELTON'S CEMETERY.
