Clara Bell Matthews, wife of Geo. M. Matthews, died at her home in Leesburg, Tuesday morning at 5:00 o'clock, after a long illness from a complication of diseases, aged 55 years, 5 months, and 11 days.
Mrs. Matthews is a daughter of Mrs. Rebecca Whisler of Shippensburg, and spent part of her early life in Orrstown. on December 27, 1887, she married Geo. M. Matthews who survives her as do also three children: Robert E., Geo. L., and Francis E. Matthews, at home; her mother in Shippensburg; a sister, Mrs. John Leberknight, of Orrstown, and two brothers, John H. Whisler, of Harrisburg, and Almer K. Whisler, of Chambersburg.
Before marriage Mrs. Matthews was a teacher in the public schools of Franklin and Cumberland counties. She was a member of Rehoboth M. E. church and an estimable woman, widely known and much revered in her community.
The funeral will be held tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. L. E. Shaffner, of Rehoboth, officiating. Interment will be made in Spring Hill cemetery.
