George was a Baptist and a farmer.
"George W. married 3 times. He first married Lydia Ann Good in Carlyle, IL. They had two children, a son William Solomon born Sept 6, 1876 and a daughter Mary Jane born 1878. Sometime after the birth of Mary Jane, Lydia became ill and George took her to the doctor. The doctor said there was nothing he could do for her but suggested that George bring her to Missouri for a change of climate. So, George loaded his family, including his aging father, and brought them to Iron Co, Mo. The weather was cold and rainy and during the trip from Clinton Co, IL to Iron Co, Mo, George's father, William Solomon Dodson, caught a serious cold which untimately ran into pneumonia and shortly after they settled in Iron Co, Wm. Solomon died. He was buried at the Sutton School Cemetery (red school house) on Marble Creek, either on or near the John Mecey lot. The Missouri climate did nothing to improve the health of Lydia and in a short period of time she grew steadily worse and finally died. She was buried on or near the Mecey lot also. Time passed and Mary Jane, who had taken her mother's problem (maybe inherited it) began ailing and died in 1883. She was buried by her mother.
George had only his son, William Solomon, now and the two grew closer and leaned on each other for comfort and companionship for two years and in 1885, when Billy (Wm. Solomon) was 9 years old, George Washington Dodson and Mary Elizabeth were married in Iron Co, Mo. and Billy and his new mother grew closer and closer as time passed. "
