Son of Oscar Bloom and Mathilda Selin. Married Anna R. Schubert on 25 Feb 1935. They had 13 children. During World War II, Rudolph Bloom worked as an Axeman on the Alaska Highway in 1942--then called the Alcan (Alaska Canada) Highway. The road was to provide a supply route to US military bases in Alaska which were threatened by Japanese forces during the war. Using over 10,000 American troops and 6,000 civilians, construction began on 2 March 1942 and took a mere 8 months and 12 days to finish. The 1,520 mile highway was completed on 20 Nov 1942, at a cost of $138 million. Rudolph Bloom was stationed at Fort St. John, British Colombia and later White Horse, Yukon Territory, Canada during this time.
