OAKLAND -- Services for Vernon Floyd Ard, 90, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Oakview Baptist Church with Boyce Moon and J.D. Leavelle officiating. Interment will be at Woodberry Forest Cemetery.

Born Dec. 12, 1912, in Linn, to William H. and Ida M. Johnson Ard, he died April 23, 2003, in Madill.

Raised in Linn, he worked for the Work Projects Administration, owned a country store and worked 18 years for Pure Oil company as a mechanic before receiving his diploma as a barber. He owned and operated Ard's Barber Shop until he retired in 1977. He was member and deacon at Linn Baptist Church and received his 50-year certificate as a Mason in 1997. He and Karene Pearl Churchwell were married on Feb. 23, 1936, in Chowning. He was preceded in death by his wife on March 19, 1992; and a grandson.

Survivors include a son, Darrell F., Dallas; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Bearers will be Bill Buck, Dan Orr, Haskell Combes, Hubert Porter, Salty Melton and Bobby R. King.

Watts Funeral Home will direct services.
