Birth: 1750
Chesterfield County
Virginia, USA
Death: 1795
Prince Edward County
Virginia, USA

John's birth and exact death dates are not known. Chesterfield County was formed May 25, 1749 from Henrico County. John could have been born in Henrico County before the name change of that area his parents lived in. It is assumed that he died in 1795 since the probate on his estates begins in 1795. At his death, he had two estates. His father,(John Baugh, died c. 1785, Will written Sept. 29, 1784 and proved Aug. 1, 1785) had left him his tobacco plantation(195 acres) in Chesterfield County, Va. that was his after the death of his mother. His mother, Frances (Robertson) Baugh's Will was written July 19, 1793 and proved Oct. 12, 1795. His mother died about the same time as John and wife. John owned a house in Prince Edward County where he and his family lived. It is believed that he and wife died in some sort of accident together in Prince Edward County. They had ten children. The probate on his Prince Edward Estate begins 7 days after his mother's estate is proved. John had no Will. The probate for both estates was in the Prince Edward Court. Probate on the Prince Edward Estate begins, 19 Oct 1795 and on the Chesterfield tobacco plantation on 19 April 1796. The probate process on his estates is from 1795-1807. Descendants seem to think John was married to Phoebe Edwards, although no marriage or bond has been found for them. Phoebe's brother-in-law, Thomas Trent, married to her sister, Elizabeth, was appointed guardian for the children who went to live in Buckingham County, where they lived. Her father calls her Phebe Baugh in his Will. So most likely, Phoebe was married to John and the mother to his children.

John's maternal grandparents: William Robertson (his Will, written, April 4, 1758, Chesterfield County, VA, proved May 5, 1758. William's wife, Frances/Francis Puckett Tanner was the widow of John Clyborn when he married her. William leaves to his daughter, Frances Baugh, a slave named Abraham and a horse. William's wife, Frances/Francis Robertson, also left a Will, written March 7, 1768 and proved August 3, 1770(Book 2, page 171), at Chesterfield County. She names John Baugh (her son-in-law, married to dau. Frances) as one of several owing her money. These two Wills are on USGenweb, Virginia, Chesterfield Co. Note: on USGenweb, because her name was written as Francis, someone thinks her Will is a man's Will.
