A wonderful and kind uncle to us--Our mother's only full biological brother. He would buy us kids a big 5 pound box of chocolates every Christmas, and did we ever look forward to that!
Uncle Gerald was briefly married and divorced, so he spent a lot of time alone, but was very active in the American Legion, and the VFW. He had many friends in those organizations. He was proud of his service, but he never talked about it. Being in the Battle of the Bulge was pretty awful.
He never had any children. He was a wonderful uncle who adored his nieces and nephews.
He kept his vehicles spotless, as well as all his farm equipment. When we were young, he had a cool new Pontiac every year. He kept them so shiny! He was a special man to all of us who loved him. I always thought Uncle Gerald was a lonely man who deserved better than he got. He was just "unlucky in love."
Sadly, he became very ill right after our Mom's death. It was discovered he had cancer, and he died quickly thereafter in July, 1999. It was quite a shock that he was so ill, and had never said anything. He never complained about anything. He just worked hard. Then he was gone.....
We miss you Uncle Gerald, and I know you are comfortable and happy where you are now.
