Donald O. Haughey, 84, of Union City, died tragically in a fire at his home on Dec. 16, 2010. He was born March 12, 1926, in Battle Creek to Donald A. and Dorothy M. (Howe) Haughey.
Don lived most of his life in the Union City/Hodunk area. He was the founder of American Woodcraft, bringing that business to Union City from Battle Creek in 1962. He had a love of natural foods and healing and founded the Creative Health Institute in 1973.
He is survived by two sons, Charlie Haughey and Jim Haughey; a daughter, Susan Reed; grandchildren Pam (Lonnie) Smith, Steve Reed, Trevor (Nikki) Haughey, Darcy (Adam) Psihos, Charles (Ellen) Haughey, Angie (John) Butler and Abby Haughey; 13 great-grandchildren; sister Shirley Haughey-Wilson; one niece; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Richard.
Don was a member of the Union City Rotary Club. His Christian faith was very important to him, having a small chapel in the Hodunk Mill. Donald took great pride in the mill where he lived and was in the process of restoring.
A memorial service celebrating Don's life will be scheduled in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Creative Health Institute.

A memorial service for Don Haughey, founder of Creative Health Institute, will be held on Saturday, April 16. The service will be from 1-2 p.m, with a reception from 2-3 p.m.
