DR. FRED ABEGG, RESEARCH GENETICIST
Flemington - Dr. Fred A. Abegg, 80, of Hunter Road, Flemington, died Wednesday at his home.
Holder of a Ph. D. from the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Abegg was a research geneticist for the Bureau of Plant Industry of the U. S. Department of Agriculture until his retirement 25 years ago. He was born in Switzerland and resided in Portland, Ore.; Salt Lake City, Utah, and College Park, Md., before coming to Flemington 30 years ago. He was a graduate of Oregon State University.
Dr. Abegg was a member of the Cherryville Baptist Church, the Grandview Grange of Flemington and Sigma Psi scientific fraternity.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Marian Deats Abegg; a son, Dr. Edmund Abegg of Edinboro, Pa., a daughter, Mrs. June Zubrycki of Carmel, N.Y.; a brother and four sisters in Switzerland, and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted in Cherryville Cemetery on Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will be under the direction of the Holcombe Fisher Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
