Ronald J. "Ron" Benson, 54, Alexandria, died June 2, 2011 at his residence following a sudden illness.
He was born Jan 3, 1957 in Anderson to Elbert Benson Jr. and Mary (Mottweiler) Benson. Ron lived in Alexandria until his high school graduation and then returned to Alexandria in 2006
Ron was a graduate of Alexandria-Monroe High School, Class of 1975. He joined the U.S. Navy, serving from 1975 to 1981 and received extensive technology training. He worked for Dow Jones & Company financial publishers as a computer technician for 22 years. While living in Florida Ron received extensive training in marine mechanics and was skilled in motor service and repair.
He was an avid baseball fan and was particularly loyal to the Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds.
He is survived by his brother, Tim Benson, Anderson; sister, Patsy Johnson, Bloomington; six nieces and nephews, Jeff Benson; Angela Benson; Lisa (Casey) Kingsbury; Amanda (Doug) Hobbs; Jason Johnson; Daniel Johnson. Several aunts, uncles, great-nieces, great-nephews, special friends and neighbors including Deb Dickerson, Tim and Jackie Trueblood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Steve Benson in 2000.
Family and friends are invited to share in a Celebration of Life graveside service to be held at 11 a.m. June 16 at Park View Cemetery, 1101 S. Park Avenue (Indiana 9) in Alexandria.
Memorial contributions are suggested to be made in Ron's memory to the charity of the donor's choice.
Cremation and service arrangements have been entrusted to Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria.
