Sister M. Nora Clarke, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, November 26, 2009 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She was born on November 10, 1917, in Scranton, PA, and given the name Eileen. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Norah Nealon Clarke. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1935, and made her temporary profession of vows on May 2, 1938, and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1941.

Sister Nora served as an educator and administrator in Catholic schools for more than fifty years. She served as a teacher in the following schools: Saint Agnes Elementary School in Lock Haven, PA, from 1938 to 1945; Saint Paul High School in Scranton, PA, from 1945 to 1959; and at Saint John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, NY, from 1980 to 1996. Sister was principal at Saint Mary Elementary School in Goldsboro, NC, from 1959 to 1962; Saint Rita Elementary School in Baltimore, MD, from 1962 to 1964; Saint Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, NY, from 1974 to 1978; and at Saint Agnes Elementary School in Baltimore, MD, from 1978 to 1980. From 1964 to 1968, Sister was an education consultant for the IHM Congregation. She served on the leadership team of the IHM Congregation as a sector superior from 1968 to 1974. From 1996 to 2008, Sister Nora was a prayer minister at Saint John the Evangelist Convent in Binghamton, NY. In 2008 Sister Nora joined the community at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton where she served there as a prayer minister until the time of her death.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts degree in education from Marywood College.

She is survived by a brother, Monsignor James T. Clarke of Scranton and a sister, Norah J. Tierney of Rochester, NY; and nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by two sisters, Mary L. and Veronica O'Donnell.

The funeral will be Tuesday, December 1, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Friends may call at Our Lady of Peace Residence on Monday, November 30, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Interment will follow Mass on Tuesday at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
