Mrs. Beatrice C. DeLeon
Feb 10, 1920-Sept 2, 2012

Our beloved Beatrice C. DeLeon went to be with the Lord September 2, 2012. She was preceded in death by husband, Mack G. De Leon, Sr., mother, Elvira L. Castillo, and father, Mike Castle. Bea is survived by her sisters, Tillie Castro of Austin, and Lupe Gutierrez of Houston; her children, Jim DeLeon of Ft. Worth, Gloria DeLeon, Mack DeLeon, Jr. (Pattie Rowe), Hector DeLeon (Arleigh) and Sam DeLeon (Josephine), all of Austin, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Bea was born in Ganado, Texas, and moved to Austin with her family, where she attended Palm Elementary School, Allan Jr. High School, and Austin High School. She helped support her mother and sisters in various jobs, one of which was singing gospel music on a local radio station.

During Dies Y Sies de Septiembre festivities at Zaragosa Park, she met her future husband Mack, while working a concession stand for the Mutualista Society. She caught his eye when she sold him a 7-up. Soon after they married on June 21, 1941. While Mack was away serving in World War II, she had the loving help of her mother, Elvira, and mother-in-law, Josefina. When Mack returned, he worked in the restaurant business as a chef with Bea by his side as the bookkeeper and cashier. Bea worked for many years at Wes Williams cleaners on the drag.

Her proudest position from which she retired was with the University of Texas Student Health Center where "Mrs. D" worked as a cashier in the pharmacy making many friends among staff and students alike. She loved the University of Texas, where she and her husband Mack were honored to have an Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Law given in their honor by their son Hector and wife Arleigh.

Bea possessed a keen mind and intellect, remembering everything and forgetting nothing. Her motto was follow the "Golden Rule". Bea taught her children that no one was better than they were, and that they were no better than anyone. She and Mack taught them to get an education, to work hard, and to be responsible, but, above all, to love the Lord their God. Bea was fun-loving and laughed until she cried. Her children's friends loved to visit the DeLeon home because Bea always sang and joked with them and served them the best chicken and white rice. She was a loving, nurturing force with whom to be reckoned and treasured.

We will miss her terribly, vaya con dios, Mom. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Angel Funeral Home, Prayer Service will be at 7:00 p.m. officiated by Doug Keenan. Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, September 7, 2012 in the chapel of the Angel Funeral Home officiated by her grandson Rev. Dr. Dan DeLeon. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery where she will join her beloved husband Mack. Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons, Jeff, Bryan, Mack III, Matthew, Dan, Ben, and Mikey. Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters, Gidget, Stephanie, and Deana. Also honored to serve as honorary pallbearers are former County Commissioner Hank Gonzalez, and close family friend, Abel C. Rodriguez.

The family would like to the thank West Oaks Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, and DaVita Dialysis for their kindness and loving care of Mrs. DeLeon. Contributions may be made to a charity of your choice or El Buen Pastor Presbyterian Church. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Samuel DeLeon & Son, Funeral Directors/Angel Funeral Home, 1600 S. First St., Austin, Texas 78704.
