From Renovo Daily Record, Sat, 17 Dec 1932: Prof. J.A. Bowser, supervising principal of the Renovo public schools, passed away about 11:00 o'clock this morning at the Williamsport Hospital of diabetes. His wife and daughters Janet and Dorothy, and brother Leroy of Kittanning, were with him when he died. Mr. Bowser was taken to the Williamsport Hospital Wednesday afternoon.
Prof. Bowser came to Renovo from Tyrone in 1929 where for two years he had been principal of the Tyrone High School, where he left a splendid record.
He was a graduate of the Grove City College, where he received a bachelor's degree, and of the University of Pittsburgh, from which institution he held a master's degree.
His work as an educator included: Three years at the heart of the science department in the Kittanning High School; four years as principal of the Waynesburg High School; one year as teacher of physics in Beaver Falls High School; and two years as principal at Tyrone.
He was interested in church work, being an active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church at this place.
He had made for himself a splendid record in the Renovo schools and was respected and admired by both his associates and the people of the town.
Mr. Bowser was born at Dayton, PA, April 17, 1882. He was married July 14, 1908, to Miss Jean R. Moore of Kittanning. To their union four children were born, Janet, who is a student at Grove City College, and Dorothy at home. Two sons died when young. He is also survived by the following brothers, W. A., James Y., E. P., and J. L. Bowser of Kittanning, and E.C. of Dayton, PA. Mr. Bowser was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge at Waynesburg, PA.
