Dr. Ira D. Bowser, coroner of Jefferson County, and a prominent physician of Reynoldsville for many years, died at 2:55 o'clock Monday morning, November 25, in the Maple Avenue Hospital at DuBois. Dr. Bowser became ill at his home Friday and was taken to the hospital where he developed pneumonia on Saturday which resulted in his death.

The deceased was a son of the late Dr. Addison H. and Sarah Booth Bowser. His father was also a physician and he too had practiced in Reynoldsville for many years.

Dr. Ira D. Bowser was born at Limestone, Clarion County on November 29, 1883. On June 4, 1902 he was united in marriage to Laura E. Wheeler, a daughter of David Wheeler, of Reynoldsville. Je was a graduate of Reynoldsville High School, and of the Western University of Pennsylvania now the University of Pittsburgh. He began his medical profession at Rathmel where he practiced for six years., then moved to Reynoldsville where he has since been located.

In 1923 he was elected to the office of Coroner of Jefferson County; was reelected in 1927 and again in 1931. He was not a candidate for the office in the campaign of 1935.

His profession and political office took him to all sections of the county and region where he was known and highly esteemed by his numerous friends and acquaintances. His death came as a shock to everyone who knew him.

He is survived by widow, four daughters and one son; Mrs. Matthew A. Crawford of Brookville, Mrs. Fred Alderton, Mary Bowser, Mrs. Glenn Henery and David Bowser of Reynoldsville and one brother Addison W. Bowser of Blawnox also survive.

Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon with interment in the Reynoldsville Cemetery.
