Mrs. Bertle Lee Johns Pickett died peacefully on May 13, 2005.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira J. Pickett.

Mrs. Pickett was born in the Taylor community of Baker County Florida on February 2, 1916. The youngest of seven siblings, she was orphaned at an early age and raised by her older sisters before moving to Jacksonville in 1932. While raising a family she was employed by the Duval County School System until her retirement in 1980. A devoted mother, she was dedicated to creating a secure and loving home environment for her children and providing the financial resources to ensure that they received a good education. Mrs. Pickett was sustained throughout her life by her faith and was a founding member of the Pickettville Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Captain Larry J. Pickett USN (Ret) (Pat); a daughter Linda Pickett Moffitt (Bob); four grandchildren, Kyle and Pamela Pickett, Eric and Amy Dahl and two great grandchildren, Savannah and Christopher.

Visitation will be held at Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd. from 10-11 AM on Monday, May 16, 2005, with Funeral Services to follow at 11 AM. Interment will be in Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
