Pfc Harold E. Fry, 27, was killed in action in Normandy, France, on July 11, 1944, 8 days after he recovered from a previous wound and returned to active duty. He was married to the former Jeanne Smith of Canisteo, NY, to whom the War Dept sent the official notification. Pfc Fry attended Armagh High and then transferred to Johnstown High where he played Varsity Basketball and from which he graduated in 1936. He graduated in 1940 from Pennsylvania State College, taught at Mt. Lebanon High and later worked in a Defense Plant in Cleveland, Ohio before entering the Army in 1943. The soldier was born in Johnstown on May 29, 1917. He is survived by his widow, his mother, Mrs. Nerma (Wadsworth) Fry, his father, Mr. Ord Fry of Toledo, Ohio, one brother, Louis, one half-brother, Donald, and one sister, Betty.
