OBITUARY.
Ellen Broderick.
Mrs. Ellen Ryan Broderick died in her 88th year at 11 o'clock Sunday morning at the home of her son, Matthew A. Broderick, 6 Halcyon Place, Yonkers. The end came most peacefully. She had been seriously ill only a week. Death was brought on by complications due to old age. Her condition was first discovered by Mrs. Matthew A. Broderick. The family had just returned from mass at the Church ot Our Lady of the Rosary. Mrs. Broderick went upstairs to see whether the aged woman wanted nourishment. There wa a pallor on her face and she breathed faintly. Surrounded by members of her immediate family, and Dr. George S. Mooney, who attended her and the Rev. Michael Tomer, assistant pastor of Our Lady of the Rosary church, who administered the last rites, she sank into eternal sleep. Few outside the family, knew Mrs. Broderick. She was of a most retiring nature and preferred to stay at home to care for her children and children's children. They were her only concern and she ever maintained a deep interest in their affairs. Her one other devotion was her church. All her life she was a devout Catholic, and it was a source of much regret to her, during the past two years, when she was not able to leave the house, that she could not attend mass. During that time, however, she never failed to receive the comfort of her religion.

Mrs. Broderick was born on August 16. 1836. in County Waterford, Ireland. At the age of 9 she was brought here by an elder sister. For many years she lived in Yonkers, but went to Irvington, where she remained for sixteen years, returning to make her home with her son in Yonkers, with little intermissions, for the last twenty years. In 1857 she was married to Richard Broderick. well-known as a contractor, in his day. He died in 1879, It was Mr. Broderick who moved the Alexander Smith and Son's carpet mill equipment from their original location in Westchester village to Yonkers.

Mrs. Broderick had three sisters and three brothers, all of whom are now dead. They were Mrs. Beatrice Hanrahan. Mrs. Burton, Mrs. Mary Harney, and Patrick. Thomas and William Ryan. Of her eleven children only three survive to-day. They are Matthew A. Broderick, Mrs. Elisabeth B. Glassford, of Hastings, and Mrs. Ellen V. Xavier, of Mount Vernon.

Following her husband's death, Mrs. Broderick managed her husband's estate, with the assistance of Peter and John R. Broderick, her sons, now dead. John died in 1902, Peter died in 1882. Her daughter.
Julia, Mrs. Benjamin J. Reilly died in1888. and Richard died in 1899. The other children died in their youth.
Mrs. Broderick is survived also by twenty grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. The grandchildren are Frederick Broderick of Virginia; William Broderick of Peekskill; Arthur Broderick, 109 Beech street, Yonkers; John Leroy Broderick, Bergenfield, NJ; Mrs. Vincent Shallew, Bergenfield; Richard T. Broderick.

The great-grandchildren are Miss Germaine Broderick. daughter of Richard T. Broderick. of Yonkers; Miss Aileen Shallew. of Bergenfield. N. J., and John. Edward, Robert, Jane. Richard and Elisabeth Broderick, children of John Leroy Broderick, of Bergenfield.
A solemn high mass of requiem was sung at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning, in Our Lady of the Rosary church, for the repose of Mrs. Broderick's soul. Interment took place in St. Mary's cemetery.
