My mother Emily was a lovely lady.

She was a giving person, generous with her time and herself. Our beloved mom was a woman of kindness and modesty and lived a life that was full, constructive and loving. Her life touched many people and was at times filled with many trials, but also great joy.

A 1938 debutante in New Haven, Emily went to Miss Day's School and St Margaret's boarding school. Later she went to Wellesley College.

She loved golf and was an amateur champion winning the best female golfer at the New Haven Country Club. When her mom was alive they would spend every sunny day at the golf club.

She lost her dad, Ogden Watson White, at an early age and was raised by her mother Edna Battersby White along with her brother at their family home at 239 Everit Street in New Haven. My mom was married three times: first to my father Fred Boldt and last to John Mitchell.

My mom loved to travel and went everywhere she could. Vermont was always on her agenda.

A good friend, she had many: Janet and Willard Miner, Francis Korb, Chic Leavenworth, Cathy Miner, Ed Baldwin, Adelin Linton, Ed Baldwin, Podie Alley, Francis Korb and hundreds more. Her cocktail parties were famous!

She was president of the local Junior League and opened her big house to many visitors and newcomers to New Haven. I also fondly recall her looking out windows at her favorite wild bird visitors.

She loved her daughters, Nancy Boldt Langer Vicknair and Diana Boldt Kartsen and her California grandkids Diana Vicknair Py and Alexandra Vicknair. My mom was stricken with ALS just like her daughter Diana would be two decades later and passed away after three long years of a brave struggle. She was never too ill to have her nightly cocktails though-especially Manhattans!

From Vera Lynn's 1940's song-
"We'll meet again,
Don't know where,don't know when,
But I know we'll meet again, some sunny day."
