Aged 66..."...met death early Sunday morning, while driving alone in his newly acquired Overland touring car, on a hill near his home. He was going to watch threshing operations on a farm to be leased, his wife deciding to remain at home, and when found was crushed under his car at the bottom of a steep hill off the side of the road.
It is believed that the accident occurred by Mr. Bloyd throwing the car into reverse when about half way up the hill, instead of putting it into low gear as intended. Responding to the gear, the car jumped backward over the bank before the driver had time to get it under control. When examined the machine was found in reverse with the emergency brake set. This was the first time Mr. Bloyd had been out alone in his new car which he bought about a week ago in Dayton.
An hour later a neighbor informed Mrs. Bloyd that her husband had not arrived at the place and they set out to search for him, Mrs. Bloyd being the first to reach her husband's side. He was already dead and Coroner J.W. Cookerly was summoned. He found the accident had occured a mile inside the Columbia county line but received permission to take charge of the case."...born in middle west....aged 11 crossed plains with parents settling in California...located here 18 years ago...Father of Mrs. A.B.
