JESSE MARION PIERCE, 92, passed away January 22, 2010, surrounded by his family and friends in Houston following a brief illness.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Dalila (Orsoni Calabria) Pierce; his children, Leticia Pierce, Mary Pacifico, Jesse Pierce and Kathryn McCarthy; his sons-in-law, Henry Pacifico and David McCarthy; his daughter-in-law, Victoria Pierce; his grandchildren, Sarah Correale and husband
Vincenzo, Mafe Rosas and husband Rairhard, Henry Pacifico and wife Maria Alejandra, Fabi Pacifico, Adrianna & Brianna Pierce, Davin, Hannah &

Born November 18, 1917 and raised in Port Arthur, Texas he was the eighth child of Elizabeth Mae Saxon and Franklin Marion Pierce.

He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1935 in Port Arthur, Texas. He played basketball, baseball and was a football quarterback with the Yellow Jackets. His love of sports was a major part of his life, becoming an avid golfer until in his 80s, an excellent bowler, and a lifetime fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

Soon after graduating from High School he worked for Gulf Oil Company until his retirement in 1972. In 1948, Gulf Oil Company transferred him to Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela for the construction of Venezuela's first refinery plant. In 1950, he met his wife, Dalila Orsoni in Puerto La Cruz and married on October 4, 1950, in Barcelona, Venezuela. After 38 years with Gulf Oil Company he then worked in Freeport, Bahamas for BORCO for 8 years as a maintenance supervisor of the refinery.

Jesse will be especially remembered for his calm, patient and loving way especially with children. He loved living overseas and loved his state of Texas. To his family "He was our North, our South, our East and West...".

To those of you that helped care for Jesse in making his last years more comfortable and happier, the Pierce family extends their most grateful thank you to Dr. Metram Rao and all the other doctors and nurses and most especially to Christina, Hilda, Sonya and Rosi.

Friends may visit with his family on Monday, January 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Klein Funeral Home, Champions, where a Vigil Service and Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Community with interment to follow in Klein Memorial Park on SH 249, Pinehurst.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Texas Children's Hospital.
