My great-grandfather was one of 5 boys and 1 girl. Born to George Washinton Evans and Anthaline Beasley both of Butler County, Kentucky. Papa was born on August 1, 1901 along with his twin brother Lawerance.
I remember Papa talking of life on the farm and stories of things "Boys" did back then. I know of once time that my grandmother speaks of: Papa's grandpa Samuel had loaded all the kittens on the farm up into the wagon and told the boys to load up as well. Along the way to town he had the boys "DEPOSIT" a present off at the neighbors homes that were scattered along the root. On the way home, stood a lady at the end of the road with one of the critters in her hand. She polietly held it up to return to the owners... and she turned and never said a word.
My Papa's father had told the boys that if they waited till they turned 21 to marry he would give them each a $1000 dollars. Back then that was like gold. Papa did just that and on August 22 only 2 days after his 21st birthday he loaded his sweetheart up in the wagon and went to the Preachers house in Desert to get hitched. The preacher married them in front of his home while they sat in the wagon. It is said that there is a picture of them on their wedding day in the wagon.. but no one knows where it is.
