Last night at 10:30 o'clock occurred the death of Mrs. Hattie Corliss, wife of V. O. Corlis of 802 North Fifth street. The cause of her death was ulceration of the stomach. The deceased was twenty-four years of age. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock at the residence. Rev. J. C. Holman will conduct the service and burial will be made in Mercer cemetery.
In loving rememberance of my dear cousin, Mrs. Hattie Corliss, who departed this life at the City hospital in Ardansas City at 10:30 Friday evening, January 21, 1916, she was born December 27, 1885, in Cowley County, and lived with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Barton, east of Silver Creek for several years. She with her parents moved down by Arkansas City several years ago where she has since made her home. She was married to Mr. Vorillas Corliss last April. It was sad for her husband, mother, sisters, brothers, and relatives to part with her, yet like David we can say, we cannot bring her back to us but by the grace of God we can go to her, where we will never more have to stand around the dying couch of loved ones and see them gasp for breath and we so powerless to give any relief but have to with broken hearts and weeping eyes see the death angel conquer despite all loving hearths and willing hands can do. Hattie was a sweet girl, the pride and joy of her home, but she is gone and all we can now do is to submit to the will of God and be ready when the messenger shall come to call us from earth to meet her in heaven.
She was laid to rest on the 23rd of January beside her father. The funeral services were conducted by the pastor of the Baptist church at her home.
Hattie dear how we miss you,
Our loss we know is your gain.
But we could not keep from weeping,
For the parting gives us pain.
She was loved by all who knew her,
And was welcomed everywhere,
Kind words and deeds of goodness,
She scattered far and near.
The golden gates were opened,
A gentle voice said Come,
And angels on the other side,
Welcomed Hattie home.
