A veteran of the battle for Midway, Sgt. Vincent E. Blackburn, grandson of Mrs. J. C. Hawley, Oasis, and Mrs. M, D. Blackburn, 81 O St., has been killed in, action, relatives were informed Tuesday.
Sgt. Blackburn was born in Oasis July 13, 1920, a son of the late J. Earl and Juanita Hawley Blackburn. A graduate of Hinckley high school, he attended Branch Agricultural college, Cedar City, and enlisted in the marine corps in Aug., 1940.
Survivors include a brother, J. Paul Blackburn, now on furlough in Salt Lake City; a .sister, Mrs. Hope Marshall, San Jose, Cal., and two grandmothers.
