ST. GEORGE, UT - Owen Snow Gardner was born July 30, 1918 in Provo, UT and died March 16, 2003 in Salt Lake City of a heart attack.

His parents were Malene Glazier and Archie O. Gardner. Owen grew up in Delta, UT. After graduating from Delta High School he attended Utah State University for two years.

Owen was a lifelong member of the LDS Church, who served a mission in the Eastern Canadian Mission and held many other positions in the church including Counselor in the Bishopric and High Priest Group Leader. While he was making his mission report, the Bishop interrupted him to announce that Pearl Harbor had just been bombed. Soon after he was drafted into the Army, where he served out World War II in the Pacific. After the war, he and Lenore Sparks were married in the Salt Lake Temple on February 20, 1947. They had two children and were married 56 years at the time of his death.

Owen served his community in many ways, in the Lions Club, the Kiwanis, as Chairman of the Millard County Draft Board for 20 years, and as a member of the American Legion for 57 years. Owen loved pheasant hunting, deer hunting, and especially elk hunting on horseback in the snow. He was an excellent marksman who received top awards from the military.

Owen farmed South Tract for 50 years, although he spent his last several years between homes in Delta and St. George, finally settling permanently in St. George in 1997. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Owen is survived by his wife, Lenore; two children, Sydney and Stephen; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, May Cropper, Ogden; and Cora Jensen of San Diego, CA.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 21, 2003, 11 a.m., Morningside Stake Center, Morningside 2nd Ward Chapel, 881 S. River Rd. Visitations will be held Thursday, 6-8 p.m., Metcalf Mortuary and Friday, 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to services at the chapel.
