Steven Andrew Hofstadler, age 48, of Vista, CA, passed on to be with the Lord after spending a perfect day with his family on a beach in San Diego this January 18, 2014. Cause of death was an aortic dissection.

Steve was born in Albuquerque, NM, on May 19, 1965. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Nina, and their two boys, Justin (17) and Shane (14), parents, Hugo and Gail Hofstadler, brother, Paul, sister in law, Joyce, and nephews, Tommy and James, father-in-law, Richard Moots, brother-in-law, Carey Moots, and sisters-in-law,, Rita Moots Skinner and Erin Moots and many nieces and nephews (Callahan, Liam, Clare, Cera, Stephen, and Killian).

After attending Del Norte High School and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, Steven received his PhD from University of Texas in Austin and became a research scientist. He spent his early career at Battelle Pacific Northwest Laboratory in Richland, Washington. He was most recently serving as the Divisional Vice President of Research & Development for Ibis Biosciences, Inc. a division of Abbott Molecular, Inc.

Steven had a very successful career which included traveling all over the world to give talks and writing hundreds of papers. He was issued over 50 patents, and received several industry awards for his research including induction into the prestigious Volwiler Society at Abbott. He found his work in drug discovery and pathogen detection particularly rewarding but not as much fun as experimentation with explosives which was necessary on some of his government contract work.

Steve was a kind, loving, generous Christian person. He was an inspirational husband, father, brother, and son. He always found a way to bring a smile to the face of everyone he knew. He possessed a wonderful sense of humor and positive attitude and truly lived life to its fullest. He was active in youth baseball, community service, charitable giving, and chocolate consumption. Recently, he took an interest in collecting and repairing antique watches which still didn't help the family get to church on time.

Steve's Celebration of Life (Memorial) Service will be this Sunday, Jan 26th at 4:30pm at North Coast Church Carlsbad located at 2310 Camino Vida Roble, Carlsbad, CA 92011. Arrangements are under the direction of Eternal Hills Memorial Park, Mortuary, and Crematory, Oceanside, California.

*Gail Hope (Ellis) Hofstadler (1939-2021), Steven's mother, died peacefully on January 16, 2021, in Austin, Texas, at the age of 81. Her memorial service will be held online at http://www.standrewabq.org, on May 22, 2021, at 11:00 AM (MST).
