Funeral services for Harold F. Bateman will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009 in the Bedford LDS Church. The services will begin at noon.
Viewings will take place on Friday, June 26 from 608 p.m.at the Schwab funeral Chapel in Thayne and again Saturday June 27, from 10-11:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
Harold F. Bateman, 78, of Bedford died June 18, 2009, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of complications from a tractor accident.
He was born May 25, 1931, in Afton to Frank H. and Anna Barbara Neuenschwander.Bateman. He grew up on the family farm in Bedford.
Harold graduated from Star Valley High School where for his senior year he was elected the senior class president. He attended Brigham Young University and Ricks College.
Harold married his high school sweetheart, Eva LaRue Michaelson, on Sept 27, 1951, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
Harold joined the Air Force and served during the Korean War as an air traffic controller. This is where he began his love of flying. Other interests included riding motor bikes and snow machines and taking pictures. But his highest priorities were his family and being of service.
When he returned from the military he worked on the family farm in Bedford, milking cows and raising beef cattle and sheep. In later years, during the winter months, he was the alternate driver of the Senior Citizens Buss. More recently, he delivered Senior Citizens lunches during the Winter.
Harold worked at Star Valley Ranch RV Resort for 20 seasons, assisting with the care of one of their golf courses. He has also served on the Star Valley Hospital Board and on the Bedford Water Board.
Harold was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including Bishop and Stake High Councilor. He and Eva served a six-month Mission to Tennessee-Nashville and served as temple workers in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple for 22 years.
Harold is survived by his wife, Eva; his children, Harlan J. Bateman of Bedford; Hal Dean (Jenny Cox) Bateman of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Sheryl Ann (David) Hair of Millville, Utah; Therold M. (Stacie Sellers) Bateman of Rexburg, Idaho and Sharon (Alan) Motzkus of Bedford; sisters, Mary Lou (Reid) Wilding of Sugar City, Idaho; and Lana Hepworth of Idaho Falls, Idaho. and 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and grandchildren Anna Kay Bateman and Clay Bateman.
Funeral Services were held June 27, at the Bedford LDS Church. Internment was in the Bedford Cemetery.
