William H Barnes was the son of Bartholomew Barnes and Sarah Pierce. His parents moved from Connecticut and Massachusetts to Genesee County, New York by 1821, then to Alden, Erie County, New York, by 1828.

William married Cordelia Dodge, the daughter of Theodore Dodge and Ribecca Jane Cline, in 1862 at Paper Mill, Pembroke, Corfu, Genesee County, New York.

The couple lived most of their lives in Pembroke, Genesee County, New York. By 1910 they moved for a while to Sweden, Potter County, Pennsylvania where his brother Rosswell had moved. William returned to Pembroke by 1919.


Jane "Jennie" 1865, married Charles Rudd, lived in Elmira, Chemung County, New York. Eight children.

Adelaid or Adelene H 1866, married William F Kepner, lived in Pembroke, Genesee County. Thirteen children.

Morgan 1869-1886,

Mary R 1872, married Bert G Wilber, lived in Little Valley and Humphrey, Cattaraugus County, New York. Four children.

Aaron D 1878, married Lena M Mackey, lived in Little Valley, Cattaraugus County, New York, and in McKean, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Buried in Little Valley Rural Cemetery. Four children.

Frank Edward 1879, married Bessie Mae Elizabeth Newton, lived in McKean, Bradford, Pennsylvania, and Little Valley and Mansfield, Cattaraugus County, New York. Buried in Little Valley Rural Cemetery, Cattaraugus. Five children.

Frances 1879, married Fred Jones, lived in Little Valley, Cattaraugus County, New York. Three children.

Bertha 1882, married William R Wilbur (brother of Bert who married Mary, sister of Bertha), lived in Napoli, Cattaraugus County, New York. Five children.

Lewis Hasten 1884, married Lela L, lived in Foster, McKean County, Pennsylvania.

Charles S 1888, married Elizabeth.

Two other unknown children by 1910 census, for a total of 12, 9 were reported living in the 1910 census, the two unknown children may have died young.
