Mrs. Addie Tompkins Dies at Cedar Grove
Mrs. Addie L. Tompkins, 84, of Cedar Grove, widow of Henry Preston Tompkins, Kanawha county coal operator and founder of the Cedar Grove Collieries, died yesterday morning at her home after a year's illness.
Mrs. Tompkins, a member of a pioneer Kanawha valley family and a native of Malden had lived in the Tompkins homeplace at Cedar Grove for 53 years. The home was built in 1844.
Surviving are two sons, Roger and Grant, both of Cedar Grove, who operate the Cedar Grove Collieries; four daughters, Mrs. Mytrle Palmer. Cedar Grove: Mrs. J. E. Settle. Mrs. J. M. Stubblefield and Mrs. E. L. Michie, all of Charleston; a daughter-in-law, Mrs.
Mary Tompkins, Cedar Grove; 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Service will be held at 2 p. m. tomorrow at the residence. Rev. Lewis Kinsolving will officiate and interment will be in Woodland cemetery, Cedar Grove. The body
will be removed at 5 p. m. today from the Perine mortuary at Cedar Grove, to the residence.
