Goldie L. Benner, 88, passed away February 12, 2007, at Heartwood Extended Care Facility in Tacoma, WA. She was born February 5, 1919, to Elbert and Erma Purcell. She was raised in the Yakima Valley area and graduated from Zillah High School. In 1940, she married Richard Shelton, who passed away in 1943. In 1952, she married Herman Benner, who passed away in 1991. She worked as a secretary in the Granger School District from 1958 to 1968. She then worked for the Omak School District from 1968 until her retirement in 1981.

After retirement, she was able to enjoy time in Japan, Alaska, Florida and Texas. She also was a member of the United Methodist Church of Omak, WA.

Goldie is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Meadows of
Tacoma and Kathryn (Wayne) Freel of Omak; step-daughter, Joyce Rocca of New York, NY; son, Lyle (Eiko) Shelton of Jacksonville, FL; step-son, Keith Benner of Spokane; grandchildren, Donna Brown-Jenson of Sumner, Donald (Jo)Meadows of New York, NY, Barry and Shawna Freel of Omak; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands; brothers, Cecil and Clayton Purcell; and sister, Hattie Mitchell.

The family was very thankful for the loving care she received from Apple Springs Assisted Living in Omak and Heartwood Extended Care in Tacoma. A Graveside Service for Goldie L. Benner will be held at the Okanogan Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Saturday, February 17, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Goldie L. Benner, 88, of Omak, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at Heartwood Extended Care Facility in Tacoma.

She was born in Colorado and raised in the Yakima Valley. She worked as a secretary for the Granger School District from 1958 to 1968 and for the Omak School District from 1968 until retiring in 1981.

Survivors include her daughters, Marilyn Meadows of Tacoma and Kathryn Freel of Omak; her stepdaughter, Joyce Rocca of New York, N.Y.; her son, Lyle Shelton of Jacksonville, Fla.; and her stepson, Keith Benner of Spokane.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Okanogan Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Okanogan.
